This year it was a great success, with 25 ceramic artists represented. Clayworks made a strong presence along with two demonstrators, Paul Davis and Alistair Whyte. Box Hill TAFE gave information about ceramic courses and Penny Johns from Artisan Books had a wide range of specialist books for sale. The work of Yves Gaget and Jean Marc Plantier from France attracted a lot of interest from visitors and fellow potters.
Besides the wood-fired bakery, there were falafels and home made fruit ice creams. The weather was perfect, sunny and warm with no wind. A jazz performance each afternoon added to the ambience. We hope it will be the same next year.
Between the 25 potters we made about $25,000 over the weekend. Not bad for the first expo. We plan on making it an annual event.
Quality and diversity are the criteria as we aim to promote the best contemporary ceramics Victoria has to offer, to a wide public.
The expo is also important for bringing together potters from around the countryside as an opportunity to enjoy each other's company and share experiences. The social aspect makes it fun, and the visitors enjoy the atmosphere as well.
